Cotton & Tussar Silk Scarf
This beautiful scarf was hand-woven with handspun locally grown cotton in natural off-white and red, and wild raw Tussar silk. The undyed cotton is combined with the Tussar silk to generate a tanned background where thin stripes of red stand out creating an extremely rich texture. The distance between the red stripes is different in each half of the scarf, creating a beautiful effect as it is wrapped around your neck or shoulders. The scarf is finished with a sewn hem.
The width of this piece allows it to be worn as a scarf wrapped around the neck or as a shawl over the shoulders.
This piece was designed by Geeta Patil and produced in Maheshwar, Madhya Pradesh, in the context of the Gudi Mudi Khadi Project from WomenWeave. Gudi Mudi means "scrunched" in the local language, a perfect word to describe the attractive natural look and texture of the textiles produced from this project. The Gudi Mudi Project skills highly marginalized women in the spinning and weaving of locally grown cotton.
